Early in the COVID-19 Pandemic, several cooking groups found me on Facebook. I began documenting and sharing my Shelter Suppers with these groups, transitioning to After Times meals when the sheltering ended. One rule in this adventure has been no repeats, though after over four years there have been some meals which were quite similar.
Santa Clara County's shelter-at-home order took effect on 17 March 2020, so that was Day 1 since the Before Times in my reckoning.
Upon reaching a year of the foul virus, I decided to mark the days in year:day format in addition to just counting the days. Thus, my meal post for 17 March 2021 was
Shelter supper 2:001 (day 366): A St. Patrick's Day Odyssey
That was year 2 day 1 of the whole mess, or just day 366.
My chronicling of the After Times is more personal and thus arbitrary: 18 May 2021 is the start of that epoch as it was when my kid and I first had a normal dinner together since the Before Times. It came after we were both fully vaccinated, plus a fortnight for our immune systems to come up to speed, plus a few days due to schedules.
Other significant dates were added over time: Seymour counts from when my new old dog arrived in California (after flying from Istanbul), and New Beginnings counts from when I was laid off after 14.7 years.
NOTE: These pages are currently somewhat sparse, with some broken links between pages, because I've only recently started posting the Shelter Suppers here.
