In fact there is comment that privately Airbus is relieved that they can go one-on-one with Boeing without having to look over their shoulder for cheap offers of MD-11s or MD-95s etc. Remember that both Valujet and USAir considered MD-95s as well as Airbus and Boeing products (with different results obviously).
