I always thought they were hollow rather than solid  :-)  Sorry-
sometimes I cannot help myself.

Any US commercial airliner is tested quite well to various specs,
including limit load factor.

Further, in any aircraft there is a 'maneuvering' speed.  That is the
maximum speed one should fly at while in or anticipating turbulence.
Below the maneuvering speed the wing will stall before it can reach the
limit load factor.
