I had not heard of this, but I certainly wouldn't doubt it. At high
altitudes, oxygen needs to be supplied with a pressure breathing mask so
the oxygen is absorbed. A pressure breathing mask forcibly inflates the
lungs and the user must forcibly exhale to evacuate the lungs of carbon
dioxide.
