Imagine the asymmetric thrust with the single port engine out. This
would be worse than a 4 engine airliner with two engines out on one side
- 50% of the thrust is provided asymmetrically in the latter, while 67%
is provided in the tri-jet. You would, thus, need a larger (heavier) fin
and rudder to compensate. Granted, the engine configuration on the two
engine side would have one engine fairly inboard, but the asymmetry
would be more dramatic than current twin or 4 engine a/c.  Another flaw
would be the expected poor public acceptance - folks tend to favor
symmetry in design.
