Hi Dave,

first of all there was an article in the February 23, edition of
Aviation Week & Space Technology on the PW8000, so you might want to
check that one out.
As I understood, the PW8000 is to lead to an 8-10% DOC decrease, have a
bypass ratio of 11:1, a pressure ratio of 40:1 and a 13 stage engine. It
also is to have 40% fewer stages and 50% fewer airfoils.
The gear is to lower the fan' s speed with having the turbine and low
pressure compressor can run at greater speed than now at the same time.
This is curently not possible because they sit on the same spool and
sofore turn with the same speed.
