The current Aviation Week reported that the Russian authorities were
studying the likelihood of a fuel system failure. The crash apparently
came after both #1 and #2 engines failed just after takeoff. The plane
was carrying 2 new Su-27 fighters to Vietnam, and had just returned from
Vietnam after an earlier delivery. Speculation is that the An-124 was
still carrying a lot of tropical-blend fuel from Vietnam and had not been
given the necessary additives in Irkutsk to allow it to work properly in
the Siberian winter.

Makes sense to me, anyway.
