The Titanic sank because it ran into an iceberg.  It is true that recent
investigation of the sunken hull shows less hull damage than had been
assumed in the years between the sinking and the discovery of the
hulk.   As far as I know the Britannic was not involved in an weather
related accidents.

I doubt if there were any welds in the Titanic.
