Depends on the other jet!  A Concorde can fly BOS-CDG-BOS in the time it
takes a 747 to fly CDG-BOS...

The more useful answer is that cruise speed is just one factor in the fuel
consumption / range / weight / cost equation.  Manufacturers have "slowed"
many recent designs to provide lower operating costs.
