Given the choice : between 2-5-2 seatings with say 34 inch pitch, and 2-4-2 seating with 31 : inch pitch, I suspect most people would take the legroom over the seat : width. I have to say that the legroom/width issue will depend entirely on the dimensions of the people you ask. I would much prefer the width as I have no problems with legroom, but find the width of seats very uncomfortable, in general. Maybe, this is a male/female thing as women do tend to have wider hips and shorter legs than their male counterparts.
