Many years ago, Av Week reported that Airbus puts the corrosion
treatment for the aluminum skin in the external paint. Because of this,
Airbuses have to be painted. Boeing and Douglas, on the other hand,
uses a different corrosion treatment that allows the aluminum skin to be
left unpainted.
