In Friday's Melbourne Age there was a report that the new owners of
Melbournes just privatised and sold airport that they were dropping
landing fees for 747 from AUD $4,000 to AUD $2,000 (with some conditions)

The article went on to point out that the new owners of Melbourne Airport
are "encouraging UA to fly non-stop 747-400 LAX Melbourne (currently
going through AUK). Presumably Qantas and others would have to match the
deal?

Can a 747-400 fly that far (in both directions) with an economical payload?
