I went to the library and found Flight International's 1985 Commercial
Airliner Directory.  In the description for the TA9/TA11, it was
mentioned that Airbus had realized that with a more powerful engine (than
engines like the CF6-80C2, etc.) the TA11 (i.e., the A340) might not be
necessary.
