Following the ditching of the Ethiopian Boeing 767 during its hijack, I
have the following questions:

Is it the first ditch into the sea of a commercial jet airliner since
the introduction of the B707?

What has been the depth of the sea and the conditions (wawes heights) in
this case?

The normal procedure for ditching is, as I know, not to lower the gears,
but couldn't they be shock absorders?
(BTW, Were the gears up at this accident?)
