Somewhere, this thread got way off track.

We were talking about using an aircraft ready GPS unit, not some
little imported piece of plastic music box for kids.

There is NO comparison.  An aircraft ready GPS unit is, indeed,
aircraft ready!  That is what they are designed for, to be used on a
plane (or jet).

Let's talk about the real problem, please.
