All modern aircraft have a fire extinguishing system installed for
each engine.  In the US they use HALON. This is stored in bottles in
the fuselage.  When a fire warning goes off in the cockpit, the crew
will select the appropriate handle, pull it and then rotate it to
discharge the bottle into the engine. Most also allow the second
bottle to be discharged to the same engine if needed.
