The pressurization is done with compressors, I believe a bleed from the
compressors on the turbines.

Take an altimeter aboard with you sometime -- my experience is that the
passenger cabin starts to be pressurized before the plane leaves the
ground.  (At DCA, I've seen -- and felt -- the cabin be pressurized to a
few hundred feet below sea level while still on the apron.)
