	The "cables" that you saw are really tubes, for the trailing 
static sources.  These are used in flight test to get a REALLY accurate 
measurement of the atmospheric static pressure.  The idea is to measure 
the static pressure at the aircraft's altitude, but without the influence 
of the aircraft.  In this way, the aircraft's airspeed and altimeter 
system can be calibrated and flight test data can be accurately reduced.
