I don't see any advantage to using a "smart" power system for something like
the reading lights;  The power line is already going to the lights and since
the switch is right by the light itself, there is very little extra wiring to
connect it directly.  This is quite different from the cockpit, where
everything that needs to be controlled is for the most part a long ways away...
