       Having flown both the DC-9 & 737, I would say yes, the '9 has a
slightly inferior system.  Some models require the crew to maually
reselect the altitude controls before letdown, I remember this often
caused a bit of a "bump".  The newer 737's I now fly are all automatic
and somewhat smoother.
