It's perfectly possible, but cabin staff have a tendency to treat the
receiver as being in the same class as a cellphone and ask you in no
uncertain terms to turn it off.  They're probably wrong, but some
receiver designs do transmit a little local RF so it's probably safer
overall for the airline to prohibit it.

Interestingly, reception of transmissions from the aircraft you're in is
quite poor, in my experience.
