Stop me if you've heard this one before, but ... (Robert Dorsett) writes on Thu Jun 22 12:21:24 1995:-

Q: Why does the A320 have a sidestick and not a control column?

A: So that, when the Flight Control System software goes down, the pilot
   has room to bend forward and kiss his ass goodbye!
