What happened to the DC-7?

The DC-7 had Turbo-compound engines that were very expensive to maintain and
not as reliable as the previous generation's lower power engines.  For that
reason most Turbo-compound engined airplanes have been scrapped.  This also
had a bearing on the jet's rapid acceptance.
