October 13, 1993 AVIATION DAILY - Rolls-Royce said the Trent 800, which will power the Boeing 777, made a successful first run at thrusts in excess of its 84,000-pound certification requirement within two hours of the start of testing in Derby. Certification is set for February 1995. The smaller Trent 700 for the Airbus A330 is scheduled to be certified later this year. Rolls said the Trent 800 has captured 22 percent of 777 sales and will enter service early in 1996 with Thai Airways International. A future version could reach 100,000 pounds of thrust.
